Several months ago taking a back road through a small village Janice noticed some very, very sick and skinny dogs.
She stopped to feed them and a Balinese farmer approached her asking her to come to his house to treat one of his other old dogs.
He loves dogs, and has 8 of them, but no money to feed them anything but white rice or to give them medical attention.
One dog was very old and had been paralysed completely for months. He was bleeding down to his bone from dragging himself around and serious infection had set in. Pak Wayan had been bringing him water and food in a half coconut shell dish every day.
We had to put this dog to sleep as he was suffering terribly
but were able to treat the rest of Pak Wayan’s dogs along with hundreds of other dogs in his area.
People there do like dogs, but lack the education and resources to care for them.
Now Pak Wayan meets Adi every morning on street feeding rounds and helps him feed the dogs in his area. He trades us his help for food and medicine.
We have sterilised most of these dogs already, and as you can see what used to be a village of ‘walking bones’ is now a village of very healthy and cared for beautiful Bali dogs.
Our street feeding and education programs DO make a difference, so please help us continue them by becoming a Friend of BAWA today athttp://bawabali.com/donate-to-bawa/
