What if every village in Bali was its own natural sanctuary for animals?

Read Our Mission

The Problem

Animals have long struggled to survive in the streets, beaches, and villages of Bali facing hunger, illness, mistreatment, and uncontrolled breeding.

Amidst a lack of understanding, education, and enforceable laws against improper treatment of animals, we work tirelessly to protect them from harm.

The Solution

BAWA’s programs are designed to tackle Bali’s animal welfare issues from all angles.

We take action to directly relieve pain and suffering, and work within communities to influence a positive shift in attitudes and behaviours, in order to stop animal mistreatment before it occurs.

We are changing animals’ lives by changing the world they live in.

Adopting a rescued animal is an act of kindness.

Take a look at the lives you’ve saved…

Each and every day, more sick, injured, and abandoned animals are arriving in our care. Our Rescue Rehab Rehome program, completely funded by your donations, is what turns their lives around and lets them take another shot at happiness.

Save lives with us.

We aspire to spark an evolution of consciousness in the next generation by empowering children to trust their hearts and unleash their potential for compassion and kindness.

Backyard Breeders

The hidden realm of backyard breeder is one of the darkest parts of Balinese society, and with the demand for fashionable, designer, imported dog breeds on the rise, the atrocious suffering caused by this cruel industry continues unchecked.

The indigenous Bali Heritage Dog is a unique and fascinating breed. The importance of the pure Bali dog is only coming to attention in recent years to the rest of the world, but to Balinese priests, they play an integral role in their culture and always have. Known since Bali time began, since the first Balinese walked the island, they have been protectors of humans and spirits alike.

Responsible Tourism

Many Bali businesses and attractions geared towards tourists profit from the exploitation of animals by forcing them into miserable, unnatural lives. The choices you make as a visitor in Bali have the power to prolong or prevent their suffering.

Chaining & Caging

Many dog owners in Bali still adhere to the cruel practice of caging or chaining their pets, often without access to food, water, or bedding, and at the mercy of heavy rains or blazing direct sunlight.

Dog Meat Trade

The cruel and brutal dog meat trade in Bali is one of the biggest threats to the welfare and survival of the island’s beautiful indigenous dog. As many as 100,000 street dogs AND family pets are poisoned, shot, or brutally beaten, and slaughtered for consumption each year.
