Last year BAWA received a call for help from Deidre and Barbara who live on Bali’s neighboring island of Lombok. Both Deidre & Barbara were very concerned about the overall health, welfare and population of the dogs and cats around their communities.

They were saddened to continually see malnourished animals with untreated injuries and diseases, so they decided to call BAWA to see if we could work together to ease the suffering.

It took more than 5 months of preparation. BAWA completed the necessary paperwork while Barbara & Deidre set about raising the funds needed to transport, accommodate and support our team. Finally, our spay/neuter team, headed up by Dr Rai & Dr Wira, was dispatched to Lombok.

Team members spent a full week in Lombok where their presence was quite a novelty and attracted curious onlookers as they operated on animals and provided medical treatment. Everyone worked incredibly hard and BAWA, with the help of Diedre & Barbara, sterilised 215 dogs and 18 cats.

Our special thanks and appreciation goes to the Bali Street Dog Fund (Australia) which funds our humane sterilisation program and to Deidre and Barbara for their hard work, support and commitment to being part of the solution.

This Lombok trip is a fine example of how, when we work together, we can make a real difference.
